2008 Audi A3 Sportback: what owners report

Across all 8P A3s (2004-2012), not just the Sportback, French 2.0 TDI 140 owners most often report turbo and EGR valve failures, then worn dual-mass flywheels and clutches; the 1.9 TDI also wears flywheels and clutches.2004–2012
Petrol 8P A3s of every body style (2004-2012) have their own weak spots: oil consumption on the 1.8 TFSI and timing chain wear on the 1.2 and 1.4 TFSI.2004–2012
Polish owners of the 2004-2010 8P Sportback with the 1.6 petrol and 09G automatic report failures of the gearbox hydraulic control unit, and owners of 8P A3s in general also log fogging headlights.2004–2010
French owners of all 8P A3 versions are split on its reliability, with slightly more negative than positive votes, and strongly dislike its after-sales service and upkeep costs.2004–2012
