The i3 was genuinely ahead of its time. It combines a lightweight carbon-fibre passenger cell, rear-wheel drive and a 125kW / 250Nm electric motor, powered by the larger 94Ah / 33kWh battery.

This is the REx Range Extender version, so alongside normal plug-in charging it has a small petrol engine that can generate electricity when the battery gets low. You still drive it as an EV, but with added flexibility for longer trips.

Inside is where the i3 really stands out, with its light cabin, timber trim and distinctive BMW i design. At only 25,000km, this example has clearly had an easy life.
