Hyundai Sonata 2015

2015 Hyundai Sonata: what owners report

• On the 2.0 and 2.4 Theta II engines, machining debris from crankshaft production can starve the bearings of oil, leading to knocking and, in bad cases, a seized or holed engine.2011–2019
• The 2011 model year is the worst by far on US complaint data, with engine seizure the single largest problem; seized 2012 engines and 2015 oil burning also rank among the worst problems.2011–2015
• Excessive oil consumption is a recurring US complaint: it is among the worst problems for 2015 cars, and about half of the visible 2018 owner reviews mention topping up oil.2015–2018
• In the US, eligible 2011-2019 cars get a lifetime engine warranty extension once the knock-sensor detection software update has been installed.2011–2019
