I’m sad to let go of my Silver Lexus LS 460, a flagship sedan. I’m the first New Zealand owner of this imported model from Singapore, and it’s been a dependable car throughout my ownership.

The LS 460 is known for its build quality and V8 performance. A 4.6-litre petrol engine paired with an 8 speed auto, is a capable cruiser on motorways and around town. The Lexus reputation for reliability (manufactured by Toyota) shows why the LS460 range has such a strong following.

Being a flagship model, it comes with a good level of standard equipment including leather seats, climate control, and a great sound system. The interior space is in excellent condition and being grey leather, it is a cooler colour during the heat of the summer.

It’s been well looked after and runs as it should. The car has covered just over 150,000 kms since I bought it from a dealer who imported from Singapore with some 60,000kms on the clock in 2017. This LS460 is a comfortable sedan with a V8 motor and a solid reputation.

Since 1999, this was my third Lexus imported from Singapore because I found them all to have been well looked after, and all electronic wording on their dash boards were displayed in english.

As I was in financial services, most of my long trips in this Lexus were to Wellington and Auckland to visit my clients. Although fuel economy around Tauranga was in the 12 litres per 100kms, I found that by cruising at 97-98kms ph (just under 1,500rpm), my fuel gauge went down to 8.7 litres per 100kms when I arrived in Wellington. This proved to me that this car with a 380 bhp motor can be economical if driven just under the 100 km ph NZ speed limit on the open road.

As I am coming up to age 80, I have now bought a smaller car for around town driving.
