2010 Volkswagen Touareg: what owners report

US complaint data rates the 2012 model year as the worst, with diesel (TDI) failures as its top problem; fuel pump failures are listed for the 2010 and 2012 US model years, the 2010 ones at around 103,000 miles on average.2010–2012
In ADAC breakdown data the second generation mostly does well, but 2010 and 2012 registrations sit mid-table and injectors are a weak spot on 2012 cars.2010–2012
On second-generation cars the 3.0 V6 TDI can suffer stretched timing chains and failed tensioners, an expensive repair.2010–2018
German TÜV data show higher oil loss from the engine and gearbox on the 2010-2018 Touareg, especially at the fourth inspection, plus early wear of brake discs and hoses and slightly above-average steering wear.2010–2018
